On the southern edge of New Yorkās Central Park, there are a few blocks of residential skyscrapers called Billionaires Row.
After staring up at those absurd glass towers for weeks, wondering who in the hell lives up there, I found a virtual tour of a penthouse apartment in the tallest of these buildings.
Once I watched the video below, I couldnāt stop pointing it out to my friends. Telling them about the $250 million price tag. The 17 thousand square feet.
Itās insane. (33 minutes)
Iām not sure if I should be horrified by the obvious excess, or impressed by the engineering, but the apartment left me awestruck.
The craziest thing is that someone actually bought it. If youāre interested, I guess you could inquire to be their neighbor. And maybe invite me over if you end up making a purchase.
Though this particular address breaks all kinds of records, this kind of excess is not that exceptional.
One Brazilian billionaire family is also trying to sell their gigantic apartment in Rio de Janeiro. Itās 32 thousand square feet. Yeah. Bigger the previous apartment. And a completely different vibe.
The tour is in Portuguese, but the main points are: three stories, ten parking spots, 3 master suites⦠just look at it. (5 minutes)
If these insanely huge and opulent apartments are getting you down, donāt worry. I have the perfect antidote.
My girlfriend recently introduced me to a youtube channel called Never Too Small. Itās about small apartments. Reasonable living spaces made even more reasonable by human ingenuity.
The videos are mesmerizing and inspiring, no matter what your house looks like. Hereās one from a student in Milan. 226 sq ft.
It is indeed quite small, but I mean⦠the hidden sink! The cool floor! The under-the-bed storage?!
Whichever side of the (un)real estate spectrum youāre on ā insanely gigantic to beautifully tiny ā I hope you are inspired somehow by wherever you live.
And if you are, send this newsletter to a friend!
Tune in next time for some inspiration: people making things.
I LOVE small apartments! Also I lived in that building with the expensive NYC penthouse and I was living in someoneās bedroom that was converted to a whole apartment. :-) š
